Creative Dance

Creative dance helps us develop an increased ability to be in our bodies in the present moment, attending to our experiences in an environment that values kinaesthetic & somatic wisdom. This supports emotionally, mentally and socially, & thus will have positive affects on other aspects of life. Creative dance does not require formal training making it ideal for all ages, body types and abilities. I feel passionately about the importance of giving people opportunities to experience and value their sensing, moving bodies, and to integrate this experiential attitude into their lives and learning. A different way of ‘knowing’ that can be available to us all.

My sessions respond to the individual or group I encounter. I often work with children but happily bring the joy of movement exploration to adults, including elders and those with differing abilities. I offer a medley of physical warm ups, improvisation, solo and group choreography, all different kinds of music, props and objects that inspire kinaesthetic exploration and story creation, experiential anatomy, action songs and games, connecting our bodies with the seasons and nature – with a priority upon dance as an inclusive activity.

Inherent in the creative practice of dance is the development of aesthetics, and an expansive exploration of the poetry of life through ideas such as symbolism & metaphor in movement. Creativity and imagination IN physical activity. Where meaningful, art/mark making and poetry/word finding can follow from or during dancing.

Currently I am leading My Moves in Cardigan & Fishguard, dance classes for learning disabled & autistic adults supported by Arts Care/Gofal Celf. With People Speak Up I have been offering creative movement experiences for elders in their homes as part of Creative Home Delivery Service, & am on their team for Playwork sessions in Llanelli Family Centres. The family & children’s dance classes I lead in Cardigan resume in January 2026.

I gratefully acknowledge People Speak Up, Maynard Abercych, and long term collaborator Eeva-Maria Mutka, and Lisa Philipps. Many of the images here arise from co-creative projects and classes.
